Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Atonement, its distinctive pink exterior, twin spires and stained glass windows make it a popular tourist attraction in Baguio.[1] It served as an evacuation centre under the Japanese Occupation during Second World War.[\/vc_column_text]<div style=\"background-color:; height: 20px;\" class=\"nicdark_section  \"><\/div><div style=\"background-color:; height: 20px;\" class=\"nicdark_section  \"><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1492008848756{margin-top: 20px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column]\n    <div style=\"text-align:center;\" class=\"nd_options_section\">\n      <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;\" class=\" nd_options_margin_0 nd_options_padding_0 \" src=\"https:\/\/xtremelyxpresso.com\/oakandstone\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2020\/06\/baguio-cathedral2-xtremelyxpresso.com_.jpg\">\n    <\/div>\n   <div style=\"background-color:; height: 20px;\" class=\"nicdark_section  \"><\/div> <h2 style=\"color:#444444; padding:px; text-align:; font-size:25px; line-height:25px; letter-spacing: px; font-weight:normal;\" class=\"   nd_options_first_font \">History<\/h2> <div style=\"background-color:; height: 20px;\" class=\"nicdark_section  \"><\/div>[vc_column_text]In 1907, a Catholic mission chapel, dedicated to St. Patrick, was established by Belgian missionaries from the Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae. The site where the cathedral currently stands was a hill referred to as Kampo by the Ibaloi people. Construction of the cathedral itself began in 1920 under the leadership of the parish priest, Rev Florimond Carlu, who renamed the hill Mount Mary. The building was completed and consecrated in 1936. It was dedicated to Our Lady of Atonement.<\/p>\n<p>During the Second World War, the cathedral was an evacuation centre, and it withstood the carpet-bombing of Baguio by Allied forces during liberation on 15 March 1945.
